A key objective of Rotary International is to encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and the professions. Recently Weston Rotary recognized nine local businesses and organizations with the Rotary Club of Weston’s 2010 Business Ethics Award. The criteria for this award are founded on Rotary International’s “The Four Way Test”.

In 1932, Chicago Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created “The Four-Way Test”, a simple code of ethics adopted by Rotary International 11 years later. The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, is a staple of Rotarians throughout the world, and serves as a guidepost for actions in our business and personal life. The “4-Way Test” asks the following simple questions:

Of the things we think, say, or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
